Growing up in a reunited Berlin, the former division of the city doesn’t play a major role in my life. However there are many traces left. Thus I was born and raised in the area of the former frontier between Wedding and Mitte. I crossed the border daily. To me the former division is most manifested in the architecture. Researching this special interest I created a series of photographs showing the past prestige objects of the Karl-Marx-Alle and the Hansaviertel amongst many more. Added to that I examined diverse construction sites, because they have an immanent role in the cityscape and because they were used as reunifying instrument after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Proceeding from the photographs I created 2D and 3D collages leading to the design. The photo shoot took place at the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer which is a memorial for the former division of the city.
